Which Olaplex Products are Best for Damaged Hair?

Before we get into exactly which Olaplex products are best for damaged hair, I want to provide some background on how Olaplex works and which hair types Olaplex is good for.

How does Olaplex work?

Olaplex’s unique and patented chemistry starts with a single active ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate (don’t ask me how to pronounce…)

Olaplex works by finding single sulfur hydrogen bonds and cross linking them back together to form disulfide bonds. Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate supports broken and weakened bonds.

The patented Olaplex Bond Building technology works on a molecular level to repair damaged and broken bonds. Olaplex repairs the broken bonds and rejuvenates the hair. Olaplex also increases tensile strength and restores elasticity. Olaplex also works to protect the hair follicle from further breakage. It is important to note that Olaplex is not a protein treatment. It is a bond builder and a bond multiplier.

Which hair types is Olaplex good for?

We all have bonds in our hair so whether your hair is curly, straight, wavy or in between, Olaplex will work for you. Whether you have thick hair, fine hair or anything in between, Olaplex is perfect as it repairs broken bonds in all human hair. Olaplex is suitable for all hair types and really easy to incorporate into your hair care routine.

Olaplex works if you get a color treatment regularly. Olaplex also works wonders on naturally colored hair. I have never colored my hair, I am in my 30’s and I still really benefit from Olaplex. I noticed a change in my hair the first time I used Olaplex. I have also had blog readers who have had severe damage and brittle hair. They used Olaplex and within a couple of weeks, they had visibly healthy hair.

Olaplex is great for hair damage from hot tools, color damage, sun damage and more. If you notice breakage, split ends, and overall fried, limp hair, Olaplex is one of the best hair care brands on the market. Even if you don't chemically treat your hair or heat style, Olaplex really works to repair the hair.

Olaplex is a great treatment for wavy hair

Which Olaplex products are best for damaged

hair?

There are two Olaplex products in particular that are perfect for damaged hair. Mechanical damage can happen from tight ponytails, brushing out those knots too harshly, weaves, braids, and anything that physically takes a toll on your hair.

The best Olaplex product for damaged hair is Olaplex 3. Let’s go into the details on why Olaplex hair perfector is the best for damaged hair.

Olaplex No 3: The best Olaplex product for damaged hair

Olaplex 3 is an intensive bond-building hair treatment. Olaplex 3 Hair Perfector reduces breakage and visibly strengthens hair.

How to use Olaplex No 3

Using Olaplex No.3 is easy to use. Olaplex hair perfector can be used on damp hair, before shampooing. Olaplex hair perfector takes 10 minutes each week and is the perfect at home treatment.

Olaplex no 3 is great for repairing mechanical damage (as mentioned above) from e.g. tight ponytails, brushing harshly to detangle, braids, weaves etc.

Olaplex no.3 works to repair bonds which mend damaged hair. If you are worried about frizzy hair, then your hair is likely damaged. Damaged hair has a tendency to frizz a lot. By using Olaplex 3 to repair bonds, you will notice a difference to your hair.

The best Olaplex product for damaged hair is Olaplex 3 as it repairs hair, which is the starting point for healthy, frizz free hair. If you follow the curly girl method, then Olaplex 3 is perfect as no silicones are used.

Olaplex No 8

Olaplex 8 is the 2nd best Olaplex product for damaged hair. Olaplex is known for their patented active ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, which repairs bonds in hair.

Olaplex 8 is one of the newer Olaplex products that was released in 2021. This is Olaplex’s first ever hair mask. While Olaplex 3 is amazing for repairing the hair, Olaplex 8 is great for hydrating dry hair.

Your hair can be damaged and dry at the same time. Olaplex 3 and Olaplex 8 are power houses when used together. With Olaplex 3, you can say goodbye to damaged, frizzy hair. With Olaplex 8, you can say hello to continued frizz free, healthy hair. Frizzy hair can be caused by damaged and/or dry hair.

While Olaplex 3 is amazing at repairing damaged hair, it will not inject moisture into your hair. That is Olaplex 8’s role.
For damaged hair, I highly recommend using both Olaplex 3 and Olaplex 8 together.

A limited edition set was just launched at Sephora which has both Olaplex 8 and Olaplex 3 at a discounted price.

How do you use Olaplex 8

Olaplex 8 can be used weekly on damaged hair.  Olaplex No 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask is a highly concentrated reparative mask for intense moisture that adds shine, smoothness, and body. Olaplex 8 is used on wet hair after shampooing.

I use Olaplex 8 weekly on my hair and find that this is sufficient to keep my hair hydrated and far less frizzy. Hair masks are great for natural waves and curls as they give a great boost of hydration.

If you follow the curly girl method, then Olaplex 8 is perfect as no silicones are used.

Other Olaplex products

While I specifically mention Olaplex 3 and Olaplex 8 as great products for damaged hair, all Olaplex products are helpful for damage hair. Olaplex products work to repair hair bonds and really work to have hair in top condition.

If you are reading this and have damaged hair, you probably know that a $7 hair treatment doesn’t give visible damage repair.

I have tried every Olaplex hair product and have full Olaplex reviews of every Olaplex product in this detailed Olaplex review.

I do recommend Olaplex 3 for damaged hair as the first step to frizz free hair is repairing the damage. The next step to managing damaged hair is using a hair mask to maintain frizzy hair. Our hair needs lots of hydration, which Olaplex 8 provides.

This limited edition set was just launched at Sephora which has both Olaplex 8 and Olaplex 3 at a discounted price.

I have used the Olaplex shampoo and Olaplex conditioner for my hair and loved them. Olaplex is more expensive so generally people start off with two or so Olaplex products before investing in the whole Olaplex hair regime. If you can afford to invest in all Olaplex hair care products, then I would highly recommend Olaplex no.3, Olaplex no.4, Olaplex no.5 and Olaplex no.8.

If you can’t afford all Olaplex, then you will see amazing results for your damaged hair just by using Olaplex 3 and Olaplex 8 for your hair.

Olaplex styling products for damaged hair

Olaplex has 2 main styling products for wavy hair; Olaplex 6 and Olaplex 7.

I have used both Olaplex 6 and Olaplex 7. Both Olaplex 6 and 7 are good if you follow the curly girl method.

In my opinion, both Olaplex 6 and Olaplex 7 are good styling products for damaged hair. By using both of these, you will notice an increase in definition and your hair should look very healthy. My curl pattern changed when I started using Olaplex products on a regular basis. The Olaplex styling products are suitable for all hair types.

My curls are much more defined and less frizzy. I always find that if I don’t use good curly/wavy hair products, then after 2 days, my hair is frizzy and the curls loose definition. This is not the case with Olaplex products….the many benefits of Olaplex :)

Olaplex 6 for damaged hair

Olaplex No 6 Bond Smoother is a leave-in reparative styling cream that you use after washing your hair. The creamy styling product protects all hair types, including colored and chemically treated hair.

Olaplex 6 has MANY benefits including strengthens, hydrates, moisturizes, and speeds up blow-dry times. Olaplex Bond Smoother is also great for smoothing and eliminating frizz and flyaways for up to 72 hours. Olaplex 6 is very light, creamy & only a little of Olaplex Bond Smoother is needed for results.

How to use Olaplex 6 Bond Smoother

Apply a very small amount of Olaplex Bond Smoother to your hair from mid-length to ends and comb through with your fingers or using a comb. I just need a little bit of Olaplex Bond Smoother to hold my curls in place until the next wash.

I put a small pump of Olaplex 6 in my hand and rub the Bond Smoother between my hands to spread evenly throughout my hair. I use scrunching motions to apply Olaplex 6 to my curls, rather than dragging through my hair. If you have straight hair, you can run Olaplex 6 straight through with your fingers as us curly and wavy ladies need to think about the frizz factor with the curls.

Olaplex No 7 for damaged hair

As I mentioned above, Olaplex 7 is a good Olaplex product for wavy hair. You only need to apply a small amount of Olaplex No 7 Bonding Oil to damp or dry hair. You can then style your hair as desired. I also apply a few drops of Olaplex bonding oil between washes to give more shine.

How to use Olaplex bonding oil for wavy hair

Olaplex Bonding Oil can be used daily on wet and dry hair, or before styling with heat. I use Olaplex 7 every three days or so.  To give you context on how long this bottle of Olaplex 7 lasts, I have been using the bottle for just under a year. I have a lot of curly hair and air dry my hair almost always.

You will have your bottle of Olaplex Bonding Oil for months and months. If you use heat on your hair by drying or styling, Olaplex 7 is a great heat protector.  Olaplex Bonding Oil is so good for protecting and repairing.

You know that shine after the hairdressers when your hair looks all sleek and glossy?! This is the shine you will have after Olaplex 7 Bonding Oil. Olaplex 7 can be used by all hair types including on damaged hair.

Why is Olaplex so popular?

Olaplex is loved by celebrity hairstylists. As a result, many celebrities love Olaplex and have raved about it such as Kim Kardashian, Emma Stone, Khloé Kardashian, Rita Ora, Kylie Jenner, and Drew Barrymore. Olaplex was first a big hit in salons and with professional top stylists.

When salons all shut in 2020, Olaplex became a household name as people became their own hair stylists. The No 3 Olaplex treatment is like a salon treatment that you can bring home to use again and again for the cost of one salon treatment. The Olaplex bond-building technology is on the rise in all parts of the world as people realize that you can do salon treatments at home.

Overall the best Olaplex products for damaged hair

As you can see, there are many Olaplex products. The best Olaplex products for damaged hair are Olaplex 3 and Olaplex 8. For best results, I recommend using both of these Olaplex hair care products to tackle frizzy, damaged hair. You will see any heat damage reversed and healthy hair within just a few washes. I noticed a big difference after using Olaplex for the first time. If you are looking for hair products for damaged hair, then try these products together.
