This is truly an unprecedented time for us all. If anyone had told us as we made our new years resolutions that come March, our worlds would have completely changed, we would be given more time at home than ever before, our lives would become much slower (not by choice) and travel would be prohibited, we would have raised a few eyebrows.
So many things changed in my life because of COVID-19 & quarantine life both for the good and bad. I was so looking forward to going home to Ireland for my sister’s wedding in May and again in July for another special wedding. I’ve cancelled both trips and will hopefully get to go home in December to see my family. That has been one of the hardest things for me (& cooking all the time lol). There have been loads of positives in that I love working from home & not needing to commute, I’ve slowed down for the first time in years and I have been able to video call my family even more than before. I finished my first book in ages, started to blog more & I started to try take a 30 minute lunch break which hasn’t happened in years also (gasp).
There are ups & definitely down moments too however I am filling my time with some things that make me smile, happy & sane during this time. These are some easy no cost to low cost things that you can do to brighten your quarantine life. Hope some of these give you some inspiration for adding a smile to your quarantine day.
If you are following on Instragram, my stories are taken over by my evening cycles. I love whizzing by looking at all the beautiful houses. There is no one on the streets so I feel safe to be out on my bike. Only do this if permitted in your area.
2. At-home dance classes
I danced with Arin from Dance with Arin for 3 years and she sadly left San Francisco last year. She gives 2 free dances classes per week to upbeat feel good songs and puts them on YouTube after. See her YouTube channel HERE & her Instagram HERE for more details. Try it & I guarantee you will feel much better after. Any workout will make you feel better.
3. Thinking of trips that I will take
The photo above was taken last summer in Eze, a little town in the south of France with my mum. Highly recommend for the future. In my head, I’m planning all kinds of fun adventures from beach to yoga to city.
4. Getting up early before work so I have time for myself prior to beginning my work day.
This makes my day so much more relaxed when I have time to wake up, do some yoga & get ready in no rush before my zoom meetings.
I finished my first book in ages and now I’m on to some magazines that I brought back from Ireland at CHRISTMAS! A sure sign my pre-quarantine life was way too busy.
I love writing blog posts, taking photos for brand’s social media, reviewing new products and all that comes with blogging. Having this little fun at home hobby has taken my mind off the craziness in the world. I’ve seen loads of people get their creative sides going at home from tiktok videos to baking to home decor projects. Having some project or hobby you really enjoy takes your mind of things.
7. Trying out new beauty products.
I have had lots of products I have been waiting to try out and now I am like a child at Christmas. Multiple facials per week, lots of moisturizing, new make up looks have me feeling happy. Have a pamper night in your bathroom. Have a bath. Do a hair mask or a face mask. Paint your nails & toe nails.
8. Video calls with friends & family.
With the 8 hour time difference in Ireland, it is often hard to catch up with family. Having more time helps me to catch up even if my news is very limited.
9. Sunshine & getting out in the fresh air.
I swear by this one. Going for a quick walk, even 20 minutes, helps so much to take a step away from work or the madness in your house or whatever may be going on in your mind.
10. Yoga in the morning.
I’ve become the Hunchback of Notre Dame lately with my posture working on a computer versus multiple screens so yoga in the morning helps to stretch out, also makes me remember to breath & take some time for me before my busy day starts.
11. Candle & spa music before I go to bed.
I love the spa so I brought the cheapest spa home. I light a candle before I go to bed, add some spa music from spotify and instantly feel relaxed. I also don’t go on my phone late so I sleep well.
12. Putting on makeup & getting dressed normally
I feel more productive and more myself with makeup on and my normal clothes. I spend about 5 minutes on minimal makeup each morning and mostly focus on skincare right now. Wearing nice clothes always makes me feel good. I’ve discovered more lounge wear since quarantine life started and I am loving it!
13. Looking up on old memories as they pop up
My phone often brings up lots of old memories and I love it! It makes me so happy looking back at all the fun memories. My iPhone has now started making videos for me which are so sweet to watch.
14. Thinking of what I am grateful for and seeing the positives
There are so many things that I am grateful for right now and I see myself as very lucky to be able to work from home during this time. I am also looking at the positives that quarantine life has brought like slowing down, reading, cycling, more time with my boyfriend as I am usually traveling a lot. There are always silver linings.
15. Treating myself to a little something
I treated myself to some lounge wear & comfy jumpers/sweaters as I realized that often my clothes are not the comfiest. Allowing myself a treat every week has helped to look forward to a little something arriving in the mail.
I wanted to share these as some may also bring you some joy. Also remember, it is perfectly fine to clean 5 drawers one day, face time 2 friends, finish a book, workout and then another day, do absolutely nothing except watch Netflix. Take each day as it comes and try to fill it with things that bring a smile to your face.
Hope you enjoyed this. Stay Safe xx
